Is this bamboo lucky?

Yesterday I went to the supermarket. I saw this very Chinese-appearing thing and decided to buy it:

My new lucky bamboo

What do you think? does it seem to be Chinese enough?

Well, not only it is not Chinese, but it is not even
a bamboo-related plant!

Not that I had though of it as a highly valuable product, but at lest as a cheap chinoiserie!

But even so, I do not regret buying this Lucky bamboo: first of all it is pleasant to the eye and secondly, thanks to it I found out something new.

And after all ...it does manage to be a sort of Chinoiserie: "Chinoiserie" is a term coming from French, meaning "Chinese-esque". According to the Oxford dictionary, it is "a decorative style in Western art, furniture, and architecture, especially in the 18th century, characterized by the use of Chinese motifs and techniques". So, this is in fact an object that recalls China.

But, what kind of plant is this? Despite the appearence similar to bamboo, this plant, commonly known as "lucky bamboo", is a Dracaena Sanderiana (or Dracaena braunii). (see here)

In Chinese it is called  富贵竹  fùguìzhú (rich-valuable-bamboo)

also known as 万年竹 wànniánzhú (ten thousand-years-bamboo)

So maybe it will bring some luck? Let's hope so!

good luck to everyone!     O(∩_∩)O
